BUSINESS leaders will today urge politicians to locate the new Green Investment Bank in Edinburgh - a move that could bring hundreds of jobs to Scotland.

A delegation from the Edinburgh Green Investment Bank Group will brief MPs before meeting Scottish Secretary Michael Moore and Business Secretary Vince Cable.

Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce chief executive Ron Hewitt leads the group.

The campaign is backed by Scottish Renewables, Scottish Financial Enterprise, Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Scottish Development International and ScottishEnterprise.

The group believe Edinburgh has the best case for running the new bank - which will fund clean energy and low-carbon projects - because it is an established financial centre and has a growing expertise in renewable energy.

Hewitt said: "We are challenging the received wisdom that any new UK institution should be located in London.

"Equally, we recognise that the Green Investment Bank, located in Edinburgh, must add value and stimulate growth right across the country."

Business leaders believe locating a financing centre for the green industry in the city will persuade more energy and low-carbon technology businesses to locate in Scotland.

Aquamarine Power chief executive Martin McAdam said: "It would cement the city's growing reputation in green energy and I'm confident it would generate significant future inward investment and jobs."
